Everyone else covered it but yes, the Dutch do really have them with coffee. They actually put them over a fresh cup of coffee so the steam warms them up and softens the caramel.

My husband is Dutch and makes them from scratch.

Yumm! Wow from scratch! Can I come over?!lol

Tried top of the coffee cup thing with tea. Meh, sort of gimmicky. I like to just dunk them in hot tea or coffee.

Rodman's sells them too. They have the best cookie section ever.

Get them hot from a street vendor in Amsterdam, or not at all.

Unless you are talking about Tunnock's caramel wafer biscuits, which are British (and also sold at World Market).

I was given those with my cup of tea after a blood donation in Edinburgh.

Although they are so hard/chewy. Maybe I'll do the coffee trick next time.

Pizzelles are a completely different (delicious) cookie. Pizzelles are an Italian waffle cookie that is usually flavored with anise.

Really? They look identical to the pic someone posted.

Good to know though

Yeah they weren't that spectacular until I had them fresh. Now those are good.

He uses a special stroopwafel iron that his mom brought over from Holland like this one. https://www.amazon.com/Palmer-Electric-Belgian-Cookie-Iron/dp/B000NRR7XI

DH recommends that if you go to a bakery in Holland buying the stroopwafel crumbs or edges. Little extra pieces that they sell in a bag which he says are good over ice cream!

Pizzelles are a single wafer. Stroopwaefels are two wafers with a layer of caramel inside.

And pizzelles tend to be a bit more "designed" - flowers, stars, etc.

I saw them sold in single packs at Starbucks recently. Thanks to the PP who posted the alcoholic beverage!
