Am I too old for this length shorts?

I think it depends on what you feel comfortable in. I'm 33, 5'9" tall and wear a size 8 (w/ room to eat!), but I would feel self-conscious and be tugging at them all day.

I'm 39 and wore that length shorts last year. Now, this year, I don't know what happened, but I think I am officially in the "longer shorts" age group. Man, my legs aged. Who knew legs could age that fast.

I think they are cute! If you have great legs-- go for it!

I'm turning 38 this year and this comment totally depressed me. How did your legs age? What does that mean??

Yes! I bought these when I was 37 and they were fine. Now that I'm about to turn 40, they are iffy and I'm shopping for longer shorts for this year.

If you've got the legs you can definitly be wearing these shorts regardless of age. It's what you wear with them that will make them age appropriate. I'm almost 40 and have no cellulite, varicose veins, etc and have very fit legs (good genes/lots of excercise). I'm not saying this to brag but just to point out that age is not important as much as being fit!

Most of my friends this age (late 30s/early 40s) would look great in these shorts. It's depressing reading posts from woman of this age making themselves sound so...old. If you're in shape, age isn't important here.

I say if you've got the legs for them, go for it regardless of your age. I'm 40 and if I had great legs I'd wear them. Unfortunately I haven't been able to wear that length short since I was about 28 due to spider veins, and now cellulite. Oh well!

Depends on your figure and your comfort level - I'm 30 and I've found J. Crew's shorts with a 3 inch inseam to feel way too short for me and prefer their 5 inch inseam ones by a long shot. Might be worth trying the ones you've linked to on in person to see how you feel in them.

Anonymous wrote:They are nice shorts for the appropriate situation. The outfit with the button down shirt is good for someone in their thirties who is fit. Perhaps a rule of thumb should be if you can wear an 8 or less with room to eat then it's OK. Any larger and you should wear longer shorts. No wife beater or cammie unless you are at/on a beach and then wear the shirt open over it.

Why not a wife beater/cammie? It gets so hot in DC in the summer....

It does indeed get hot over the summer here, but middle-aged lady skin isn't anything to look at, no matter how fit the lady may be. I guess I'd suggest covering up after, say, 40.

I can only imagine what you look like!

maybe if you'd stayed out of the sun when younger your skin would be nice and smooth and firm, like mine.

I just bought the 5'' shorts at J Crew on Sunday and they are much more flattering. I am early 30s, slender and in decent shape. I just don't want the hassle of bending down and having my butt hanging out.
