Consider a reverse mortgage. I almost never recommend these, but your mom's case practically screams for it (own house outright, little debt, need cash to live, not concerned with passing it down to kids). |
Jumping to a solution when you don't know all the facts isn't the right way to go. You really need her to track her expenses for several months. Five years of savings on top of her current savings and SS might be enough. She can't have that many expenses unless she is not spending wisely. |
She should keep working until health issues interfere....she could potentially work another 10 years (and get another job if she loses the current one). It doesn't seem like she is really wanting to retire anyway |
OP here, she has very little interest in actually retiring and enjoys working. |
