Scott's Run. You can walk down to a smallish waterfall. If you park in the big parking lot of Georgetown pike you will pass over a water crossing. You can also park in the Langley swim club parking lot. |
definitely not the Billy Goat trail
if you're kid's in a stroller the Capital Crescent Trail is good. I wouldn't put my toddler down on this trail on his feet during the weekend b/c some bikers do not slow down. also the Arboretum can be done with a jogging stroller brookside gardens is nice too |
Maybe Great Falls? The basic trail with the lookouts will be fine for the stroller. I also like Manassas - wide open trails. |
Another vote for Roosevelt Island. Just watch the low areas for mud. And the center area is great for running around. |
Burke Lake, Lake Accotink, or any of the trails behind Hidden Pond or Hidden Oak nature centers.

Huntley meadows in Alexandria is quite nice. Boardwalk for most of the way, little nature center. |
Not for this weekend, but HUGE recommendation to get out to Bull Run Regional Park in manassas when the bluebells are out in early April. It's the largest span of bluebells on the East coast, and it's just spectacular, blanketing all along a flat, winding path along Bull Run. You can also get some amazing pics of your little one sitting among bluebells as far as the eye can see.
Riverbed Regional park also has a pretty good bluebell showing along the Potomac...in fact, I think they are having a big bluebell festival for families one weeken soon. The trails are a but easier and flatter than Great Falls, and it's close to you. But don't miss Bull Run, really. I can't believe I lived here for over a decade without ever seeing it 'till Last year. It's spectacular. I any wait for the LO in my belly to be out and walking two years from now to see it with him! |
On second brookside gardens/Wheaton park |
Not the OP, but thank you! We'll check this out this year. |
Anyone have tick issues at Bull Run? I thought there was a bad outbreak/infestation there? |
