Where can I get a goldendoodle?

My parents got theirs from the spca.

Look at shelters; they have lots of mixed breeds.

Doodles aren't registered breeds so the AKC probably won't help.

OP is there a purebred dog you might consider?

Yes, but breeders - legitimate ones - are a tight knit group and often know who is breeding what. That was my point.

An AKC breeder will not help you with selecting any sort of mixed dog. They're breeders. They would just be: wtf?

Goldendoodles and labradoodles are usually bred from pure bred dogs - the good ones anyways. These are not ordinary mutts (have you seen how much a Goldendoodle costs?) Breeders actually breed these dogs. So I doubt they would be like wtf.

My advice is go with a reputable breeder. Do your homework. Search reviews online. We did, and we have a wonderful goldendoodle as a result.

Laurel Ridge is where we bought.

We got our goldendoodle from a breeder in Iowa and had a great experience. I also know many people who have gone to the Laurel Ridge breeder and have gotten wonderful dogs.

Another vote for Laurel Ridge Goldendoodles!

Looking at the website, Laurel Ridge currently has 5 litters of puppies plus some leftovers. A good breeder breeds at most a couple of litters a year.

You do realize you're buying a mutt, right? I guess my loving, friendly mixed hound could be a designer dog as well, a Beagle Walker (beagle, treeing walker coon hound). So ridiculous.

There are plenty of designer dogs at shelters these days.

We got our mini goldendoodle from Fox Creek Farm in Berkely Springs WV. We couldn't be happier - she has a sweet temperament, all around happy/healthy pup! She's non-shedding and hypoallergenic (we have allergies in the family.)

There is no such thing as a reputable breeder of mutts.

No help here but our neighbor has one and we just lover her so much. She looks like a muppet!

I'm in the Richmond area, but I'm willing to travel to the DC or Baltimore area if needed.

And please don't waste your time talking about shelter dogs and how I should do that instead. I applaud people who do that, but I have tried it twice before and it hasn't worked. I won't comment or reply to unhelpful posts. Thanks!

Consider contacting local rescues and let them know you are looking.

Rescue groups get lots of inquiries from families who can not keep their dogs due to many circumstances. The rescue groups do not take in every dog and often will not take in dogs from families who they feel can rehome their dogs on their own meaning the dogs are family pets, well trained, well cared for. They might be able to put you in contact with such a family. This way, you can visit the dogs owners, talk to them, see the dogs temepermant and most important get medical records, an already potty trained and basic trained dog. You adopt the dog directly from the owners and the rescue org plays no additional part.
