Cocaine Scandal at Sidwell Friends?

Anonymous
OP, I'm a Sidwell parent and I know the school isn't perfect (now that's a newsflash worthy of the Enquirer cover), but, really, instead of starting all these dopey threads (not to mention reviving the old football thread -- or maybe you started that one too?), why don't you just state your beef against Sidwell? Honestly, if it's just sour grapes about your kid not getting in, let it go -- Sidwell is not nirvana. If your kid was booted/nudged out, explain why you think that was unfair. If you're a current or graduated parent (I do hate that term, but the school insists on using it, however ungrammatical it is), then let us know what your complaint is. Otherwise, really, you just look increasingly silly -- and you set the bar high to begin with.

Completely agree. Seems like there some vendetta at work, so just come clean about it.

I'm tired of these anti-Sidwell threads clogging up the discussion.

Wonder if OP is also behind the Problems at St. Albans thread.

I wonder if OP is the same as the notorious Holton mom.

I don't think it is the Holton mom. She seems content to just post a lot of "Holton, huzzah!" posts that sound like they come out of promotional brochures. I think the Sidwell hater is a different person. And I suspect the St. Albans poster may be the person who has defended Landon by bashing St. Albans.

I don't believe anything until it's been verified by the Weekly World News.

I agree that Holton mom is likely not the Sidwell basher -- her boosterism may be over-the-top sometimes, but she does not seem like the mean-spirited type to attack others. I really think the Sidwell basher is a high school kid -- who else cares so much about high school athletics?

My guess is it's either a HS kid who got booted from Sidwell or a parent of a kid who got booted. It's not Holton mom, who is completely upfront about having an ax to grind with NCS b/c her DD didn't get in there. Even so, Holton mom's strategy is living well (or, in this case getting into an Ivy as a crew recruit) is the best revenge. She doesn't just post crazy things about NCS a la Sidwell hater. Re STA basher, I have no clue as I've not read that thread.

My thought exactly.

I thought this too. Why would anyone risk a mandatory minimum prison sentence for a party drug. Idiotic. Expensive, criminal penalties, why? I mean these kids are raised on Ritalin and Adderall until they're 18 and can take anti-depressants like normal people. What would even be the appeal of a stimulant to them for anything but performance enhancement? Crazy. Stupid, really.

Well yeah, but stimulant abuse in the form of Adderall etc is a huge problem too. Are you suggesting it's better than cocaine?

That whoosh sound, is the point flying over your head.

Worse, it appears that the scandal involves President Obama's daughters. This is a real shocker. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about this in the mainstream press. Even worse still, the article cites an article from the official school newspaper that a whopping 70% of Sidwell students have attended parties where drugs were available.

Does anyone have more information about the scandal? It must be a terrible time for Sidwell parents. I bet there's some hard discussions making going on in the White House tonight.

Disclosure: I don't have kids at Sidwell Friends myself. I can't afford the $35,000 annual tuition. But isn't it ironic that people pay all this money to send their kids to a supposedly good school, only to find out their kids are at a school surrounded by rich kids who do drugs and other unsavory things with impunity?

News flash: a HS kid somehwere in NW DC is using coke.... the ONLY reason you, the Enquirer or anyone else is pushing this story is becuase as you so enviously point out , "this is a rich kids school and , look what is happenning..." na nana na na......Envy is unattractive, stop veiling yours as "public concern"

Newsflash: OP is a jerk for starting this thread. But so are you for assuming everyone not in an elite private school is motivated by envy.

I did not say everyone, just those who read the Enquirer while shopping at Giant, then run hope and try to stir the pot on this forum, dragging the Obama girls into it for good meausre. Is she poting about X number of kids in DCPS who were arrested over the weekend for cocaine, no she is not. Why is that ?

When a wealthy person acts crazy in public , people make fun ( ie Howard Hughes), turn them into a spectacle. When a poor person does the same thing, we have a fund raiser to fund a mental health center. Envy.
