My 7 year old son just started this Focalin XR 5 mg tablet and my new insurance just went into effect on Oct 1st 2012 and first $3,000 is mine to pay upfront before insurance will cover any meds. One month supply was $178.00 but with discount card from thier web site brought it down to $111.00. I will pay for it as long as it works and no bad side effects even though it will be a huge finacial burden on my family. I expect to see a huge improvement in him for his ADHD. He already seems to be much calmer and very sweet to me where before he was hateful and temper outburst and could not sit still to do homework or reading. Told me yesterday was his best day ever at school and that was music to my ears because he always say he hates school and hates teachers and hates everything! Or says everything is boring. Only been on it for 3 days so time will tell if its going to help. I know that I would do anything to help him so I will have to cut back on other expenses and pay for this every month. Thank God that I can save what I do save! Big differerance!!!!!!!

I currently pay for a 90 day supply of FOCALIN XR20 $520. It has steadily been rising from $350+ for a 90 day supply over the last 3-4 years Our son has been on this med (after trying several others) for 5 years (increasing doses as he grew). The cost is outrageous. I will ask the doctor at our next appt. about a generic or if it is time to change drugs. He starts HS in the Fall.

I have Kaiser HMO and have never paid more than $20 for a 90 day supply of Adderrall or Concerta. Maybe you should switch to Kaiser.

I believe there is generic for the immediate release but not the XR. There is a discount card you can use through June that you can print off the Focalin website.

There is no generic Focalin XR only generic Focalin called DEXMETHYLPHENIDATE HCL. Generic can be bought for around $25. Focalin XR has no generic and costs 241.99 but usually Medical insurace will knock it down to about $180.

I pay $25 for Focalin XR using the discount card (available on their website). Normally it would be $40 under my insurance plan.

OMG, I think we had a mix-up then. We went to CVS and for one month we had to pay out of pocket because our insurance wouldn't cover it for some reason. CVS told us it's $30 per pill - so $900 for the month!!! We were floored and couldn't pay that. We had to appeal to our insurance who luckily ended up covering it, but we were outraged.

Where are you all getting them OOP for less?

There currently isn't a generic form of Focalin XR..I did the research and a generic will not be available till 2015...I just filled a bottle with a $60 deductible and used the Focalin XR printable discount card that pays up to $60 for the prescription for a whole year. With that, I didn't pay anything out of pocket..Thank God!!

My son has been taking Focalin XR since October. Some days are really good, but some days he still seems very hyper and distracted. He takes 10 mg./day. Has anyone else experienced a lot of inconsistent behavior while taking this? Or have you noticed that it stops working after taking it for a while?

Maybe he needs a higher dosage? Check with your doctor.
