Burned yet again by Whole Foods

I've never had any problems with WF, and I've shopped at the Tenleytown, Logan, and Glover Park ones. In fact the only problem I have is that they insist on calling the Glover Park one "Whole Foods Georgetown." It's located in GP, not Georgetown.

op, you need to tell the mgr this is a pattern and possibly indicative of faulty refrigeration at the store. my friend had similar experiences at the wf in clarendon. if they don't take you seriously, call the health dept.

The only thing I've ever gotten that was bad at Kentlands whole foods was strawberries. And it was on more than one occasion.

So I've been having this issue with Chicken from Wegmann's. 5 times I've returned chicken that smelled horrid. I always described it as spoiled. One time the smell was so bad we had to clean out the whole fridge to try and get rid of it. The smell will always hit a couple days after O buy the meat but before the expiration. I finally asked forth meat manager the last time. He checked the meat and admitted it smelled very strong but wasn't spoiled. He said it was "off-gassing." whatever that is.

He suggested it was something we were doing wrong. Taking too long to get it in the fridge. Fridge too warm. Etc. But none of our habits have changed. We checked the temp on the fridge. And we've never had this problem with chicken from other stores or any other meat from Wegmanns. He kept going on about there not be a bunch of other returned meat, so the problem couldn't be on their end.

He also insisted the meat I brought back that day was perfectly good to eat. Not a chance I was eating chicken that smelled that disgusting. It turned my stomach.

I have been going to the Tenleytown Whole Foods since 1996 -- since it was Fresh Fields. Fifteen years.

I have never once had a spoilage issue with fresh:

poultry
red meat
dairy
fish*

* but that isn't saying tons, because we've probably bought fish there just 20 times in 15 years.

I often eat at the food buffet (hot and cold food) in Silver Spring and sometimes P Street NW. Now and then, food will be spoiled.

I had this trouble with yogurt at the clarendon whole foods. i told the customer service guy, manager, and dairy manager. nothing. called county to report. also called whole foods in austin. didn't make a difference. SO, I no longer shop at whole foods and so far we survive. finally their produce rots fast too being a veggie won't help.

We've had this problem at least half a dozen times with chicken at the River Road Whole Foods. I've returned the meat most times (threw it out when I didn't have time to go back to the store). I check exp. dates religiously and we bring it home and refrigerate right away. I've had more of a problem with their organic chicken than their regular chicken. I've also had this problem with the prepared food there and almost never purchase it any more. It's very frustrating, but we still shop at Whole Foods....

I had that issue once at Whole Foods with fish. Have also bought non-perishable items that were expired, but they were very nice about returns. I'm mostly pissed about their parking lot situation, but that was another thread. It's like Lord of Flies sometimes. Oh some staff are so surly you wonder why on earth they still have a job, but others are so nice you forget about any rudeness.

Agree that I've never had this issue with the Kentlands or the Rockville WF.

Have had it happen with cheese from TJs quite a few times though. Enough that I don't buy cheese from TJs now.

Shop there frequently, have never had this problem.

Ha, I remember when it was called Fresh Fields, too. It took me a while to call it whole foods.
