Miele vacuum -- upright or canister?

The Vacuum Center in Seven Corners. Great service, small, family owned shop. Had several great experiences, and always happy to recommend them.

I have a canister that I love. Got it at Best Buy.

We have a canister Miele that I love. I find whatever disadvantages there are to dragging the canister around are balanced out by the flexibility of it (like being able to reach cobwebs in corners, vacuum out air vents, use in the car, vacuum upholstery, curtains). If I was older or less mobile I might think differently.

My cleaning lady is older and insists on a canister.

Really?! More than $1K for a vacuum cleaner? I thought my $20 Dirt Devil is just fine!!

I've had my canister for 11 years and it's still DA BOMB

Another canister owner here! I hate dragging it around but the performance can’t be beat. It is the best vacuum I have owned. Going on 10 years.

I have two Miele's - an upright (Twist) and a canister (C3 Marin). I know it's an insane amount of money to spend on vacuums but they are built very well and do a very thorough job in their cleaning. I keep the upright upstairs to clean the bedrooms because those are all wall to wall. The canister does the main level which is all hardwood floors and area rugs. I also use both machines to dust the furniture with the hose and dusting brush rather than using a Swiffer. I'd rather suck all the dog hair/dust up rather than sending it loose into the air. The upright is heavy but surprisingly easy to maneuver. I don't know that I'd want to be taking it up and down the stairs all the time but once a week wouldn't be bad. The canister pulls along nicely and in tight spaces is light enough to just carry with one hand and steer with the other. I'd buy both again.
