That's because PGCPD HQ is in Hillcrest Heights, so Joe Johns and all the other crime reporters are always doing stand ups there. No way a reflection on the Hillcrest neighborhood in DC. |
Is anyone posting actually a Hillcrest resident? |
Yeah |
Hillcrest is a very nice community. The positives are: beautiful big historical homes, an active community, , affordable homes, culturally and ethnically diverse, nice neighbors, it's a great commute to downtown and Capitol Hill. The Hillcrest and Penn Branch neighborhoods in southeast DC are both gems. The Hillcrest neighborhood is a middle-class neighborhood with college educated professionals. However, the negatives are: it borders some less than desirables areas of DC, the schools are terrible (most Hillcrest residents send their children to private or parochial schools), and it lacks retail/restaurant amenities.

What is the commute like during rush hour? Say, to a charter school in NE DC? |
You could be neighbors with Kwame "Fully Loaded" Brown too. |
It depends where at in NE are you talking about? Are you talking about Capitol Hill NE (which is a great commute) or are you talking about Brookland/Catholic University (which is a bad commute)y areas of NE? |
Man, they do seem to have neat houses over there. Although this one would make my commute awful, I keep looking at the pictures again and again.
http://m.cbmove.com/property/details/1138673/MLS-DC8221331/2911-W-Street-SE-Washington-Hillcrest-DC-20020 We've driven around there a lot - we were really tempted by a house on Westover Dr. But it seems like if you take transit to work it'd just be a difficult commute. |
Or Dennis Kucinich. |
And Mayor Gray. |
That's a cool house. I also like the yard on the one profiled in Urban Turf this week, with the great terracing and patio. But, I think you're right - it's a driving commute as even bus-to-metro looks like it might take a while from W street. (Though, Westover might be faster since it's a straight shot down PA ave and I think there are a couple buses that run along there down to the Potomac Ave metro stations.) |
We used to go to daycare over there. Some really nice houses! Love the beautiful slate roofs. PA Ave can get a little backed up during rush hour, but if you work on the hill it is SO close - seriously, like 10 minutes door-to-door. It is definitely a suburban feel, no amenities as others have said. |
Oh, and personally I'm not crazy about Westover Drive - too many fill-in McMansions and SUVs. |
Here is an article regarding a murder in the Hillcrest area: http://www.justice.gov/usao/dc/news/2014/jan/14-020.html |
No, that's really not in Hillcrest. Quite different area. |
