School Choices for Michelle Rhee

As was already stated, Rhee's kids are probably not considered out of boundary.

Rhee just fired Oyster's principal:

Obama's daughters go to private school in Chicago. I really doubt they will be attending a public school in DC.

No, but maybe he would do something more original like WIS.

Perhaps. They attend the University of Chicago Lab School, which is considered one of the best feeders to the top colleges in the U.S. It's very prestigious. The tuition is $20K, a bargain by DC standards. Nothing against WIS, but it would be a bit of a step down for them.

I would be willing to bet a whole bunch of money that his girls will end up at Sidwell if he wins.

Not to take this further off Rhee, but... The White House in boundary public elementary is actually Stevens. The one on K St that's being closed and merged - by some miracle - into Francis middle school.

From what I've seen on the private school forums, they might not even GET IN to a Big 3 unless the girls do some artwork with their thank you notes

Obama or not, hopefully Rhee has learned some lessons from the Oyster "merger". There's no sense in further traumatizing families if the mistakes at Oyster (still a good school) can be avoided.

And imagine if the Obamas got into to Murch out-of-boundary? Talk about scandals.

Do you seriously think that ANY school would turn away the President's children?? How do you think they got into the Lab School in Chicago?

I'd expect the school age children of sitting presidents to be attending private school. Given my limited knowledge of private schools in DC, I'd take a gander that the daughters would attend Sidwell Friends.

Or GDS.

Maybe the Cathedral schools considering one of his top advisors Susan Rice attended and graduated from the Cathedral Schools (Beauvoir and NCS) - I guess we will find out in January.

BTW - His girls attend the Lab School because he was an employee of the Univeristy of Chicago. Many employees of the university send their children to the Lab School.

That's not the only reason his daughters go there, but it is the reason he gets a tuition discount.

If I lived in Hyde Park, I'd do my best to send my kids there, too. Wouldn't you?

Well, yes: I did send my child there when I lived in Hyde Park! We miss that school, for sure. But the Obamas started there before they moved to Hyde Park. It's a wonderful school.
