They didn't have to kill George Cooper

I hear you OP. I watched last night with my daughter and the ending was like being punched in the stomach. Young Sheldon has been such a fun, lighthearted show, I was certain they wouldn’t end it in such a depressing way.

It also brought up a lot of painful memories of when I found out my dad had died, so I had to wrestle with that too.

My impression from TBBT was that George wasn't a great father, but I don't feel that Young Sheldon portrayed him that way.

Agreed. The episode where he teaches Missy how to throw a baseball is very sweet.

I knew when there was a double show
Series end is May 26 with a double airing.

I understand that his dad was different on Young Sheldon than he was portrayed on TBBT. On there, it was mentioned that Shelton caught him having an affair which promoted his obsession of knocking threes times so he warns everyone he's there. When they had George flirting with the neighbor, I was wondering if that's where they were going, but it was dropped. So it was odd when they had Sheldon doing the 3 knocks on the last 2 episodes. I wasn't expecting the death, though. In fact, I had forgotten about it and just assumed it would happen after YS but before TBBT. They don't address a cause, nor is it even needed. But it occurred to me, he just had vasectomy, so maybe threw a clot? Moot point.

We were so sad -- I pretty much knew it was coming when he left for work in that last scene. I just could tell. DD literally cried after the end of the episode. We love YS so much.

Spoilers here-but you missed the fact that Mary had purchased a blonde wig and outfit (Bavarian?) when she and Sheldon were in Europe and dressed up for George (even talking with an accent) so Sheldon mistakenly thought his father was with another woman when he briefly opened the door.

I recently started watching the series on Netflix from the beginning and catching up on the last season on network tv. I’ve only watched some of BBT so not caught up there. So I was totally thrown with his death. Not what I was expecting. And sad. One of the best shows I’ve watched.

I don't think they had to get rid of the death. I mean, it happens.

It has been a really good show.

Love Young SHeldon. Hate The Big Bang Theory.

The series end was beautifully done. It wasn't a tear jerker but low key just like George Cooper. Coach Wayne was great and, honestly, the writers made Sheldon look almost likable. It was a good show. RIP George Cooper.

It was a great finale. And while I almost never cry for TV show, this one did me in.

Young Sheldon filled the family sit-com hole left by The Middle for me. I’m not sure about the Georgie and Mandy spinoff and don’t generally like network sit-coms, but I’ll probably give it a try.

I just read that the professor Sheldon runs into at the end is a real Cal Tech professor who has been a physics advisor for both this show and Big Bang.
