Progesterone pills made me moody, fat, and killed my libido. I wish I had be ver taken them—don’t ignore side effects OP

I can no longer take any BCP at 47 I feel much, much worse. They have tried everything, low dose, POP, low estrogen like everything it's a no go now. The scary part is they seems to be messing with my heart rate and causing palpitations. I ended up in the er.

so stop taking it?

Echo other PPs. Get of the BC.

I just started BC about three months ago too. I'm 49. Zero side effects. No spotting. Less mood changes than previously. If I were getting worse, instead of better, I'd be off it in a second.

Oh wow....can't believe I am not the only one. I also responded earlier that it made me feel dreadfully awful, like I was completely drugged.

We say "the pill" but that's wrong -- there are dozens of different oral contraceptives that use different kinds and different amounts of hormones. Try a different brand. I do think you need to give each one 2-3 months (trial and error can suck) but 6 months is way too long to be miserable.

Can someone explain the mechanism by which a birth control pill would make you bleed more? I thought it was supposed to suppress ovulation.

Stop taking them OP. It's possible you are going into perimenopause. If you dh has a vasectomy, get off the pills and see how you feel.

Maybe even go on prozac.or something instead, which is what I did. Then eventually the doctor might be able to do some hormone testing.

Anonymous wrote:Low dose BCPs didn’t work for me - I bled/spotted basically all the time. It didn’t get better after 3-4 months so I went back to regular dose BCPs. This was in my early 30s. I’m now 44 and have had an IUD for several years, highly recommend (although it also took a few months to stop spotting, but now no periods at all!).

44 here and a hormonal IUD made my periods disappear (bliss). My gyn did put me on HRT (estradiol gel) because I was feeling like a moody lunatic, but better now.

My Junel is 1/20 considered low but they make a higher dose

Have you talked to your doctor? There’s so many different kinds of BCP they just choose a better brand for you.
