How long did it take you to get MRI results back?

Reliably the results posted to the portal the same day of the MRI or the next day. This year (last month), no results, so I called Fairfax radiology and was told that they’ve changed their turnaround time and it is now 5-7 business days. The person I spoke with put a “wet read” request, when I explained that the appointment was coming up and that I did not know about the increased review time when I scheduled. We had the results within an hour.

This is interesting that it’s a change in policy. I could swear that I’ve gotten same day reports in the past — late in the day on the day of the scan. Perhaps I have and they have changed things.

I got the report today, on day 5, and honestly it’s very poorly written. It’s adequate in that it lists the measurement of the tumor, but it doesn’t compare those measurements to the prior scan. I had to go pull that report to compare it myself. The person writing the report listed very little detail. It’s hard to switch horses in midstream but this wasn’t a great experience. If I’m going to be doing this every 6 months or year, I might want to go elsewhere.

That is really frustrating, OP. The last thing you need right now. Based on our last experience, I hope it is an anomaly.

When my mom moved to the area and started seeing a doctor at Scharr, he recommended the Fairfax Radiology at Innovation Park for scans, and we’ve generally had good experience there over the last three years, and their reports have consistently been much more thorough and detailed than those from the hospital system (not in this area) where she was having them done previously. I will likely just try to adjust expectations on the timing of the reports, but i know it is incredibly stressful to wait.

My mom’s tumor was found in 2017 and has remained more or less unchanged since then. The exact measurements do vary a little over the many scans, but I’ve been told that is due to the imaging process vs change in the size of the tumor.

Can you contact the radiologist practice? I contacted them once when they failed to refer to previous tests, and after that, they had to issue a correction. It was pretty hard to find the phone number - I think I emailed them.

I was concerned that they had the wrong patient because the report said something like no prior comparisons when there were in fact about five prior tests in their files.

^^ In my experience the radiologist doesn't' make the comparisons, its the neuro team who receive the report.

also when it comes to measurements, changes can be because of angle / movement of tumor rather than growth so you could have 0.5cm x .02cm x 0.9cm in any combination (if that makes sense)
