It doesn't have to be completely devoid of negative emotion, but I would like to read something that's generally, happy, about decent people, where the ending is uplifting, even if the characters face some challenges. Comedies are fine, as is nonfiction. No violence/gore/trauma. Any suggestions?

THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN.

Amazing book. Run, don’t walk.

This has serious trauma in it.

I’m not sure about the specifics of what OP is looking for but a lot of uplifting books bring you down first. I’d recommend The Sun Does Shine which is one of the most joyous books I’ve read, but it’s not all happy.

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center was fun and easy. Romance.

I find the Thursday Night Murder Club books to be fun.

I oddly find Daniel Silva books soothing.

Totally agree and I loved RACING IN THE RAIN. But she said no trauma. Hence the warning.

Um, what? How could anyone find that book even the slightest bit uplifting? There’s not one, but several murders in there.

Don't Forget to Write by Sara Goodman Confino. She is a local author.

Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes. It's fluffy and fun chick-lit.

This is my least fav book ever. Very annoying. If you are a fan of story lines where teen girls fake sexual abuse just to get men in trouble, be my guest.

Bill Bryson is a great suggestion! He has plenty of books I wouldn't classify as travel if that's not what you're going for. They're really funny and light.

Laurie Colwin.

Agree with Sophie Kinsella. I just finished a not so perfect life and it was quite charming.

What about I capture the castle?

You cannot be serious recommending this as an uplifting book?

Okay, I get it - very hilarious.

OP, don’t read Jude the Obscure.

(Read it someday, it’s brilliant. But it is NOT uplifting!)
