It seems great but I speak French. This is an art house film. Wish it would play in Bethesda where there is an audience!

It's an artsy movie. Those usually do not do great.

+1 I generally don't watch artsy movies, but my friend does, and she drags me to them. Some are actually pretty good, but I would not go see one on my own. I'd wait for streaming to watch it.

So I checked this out…it was purposely only released for one day through an event company, Fandom Events, I think. This was a huge hit in France, highest opening day box office and big winner at Cannes.

Further proof that all the social media chatter during the trial was coming from bots.

Hi Amber.

Being a supporter doesn’t mean you’re gonna run out and see every single movie he makes. Especially one that doesn’t seem to have a broad appeal.

NP. Both of those films were pretty extensively marketed ahead of release and especially upon release. Buzz for "Parasite" was there as soon as it premiered. This Depp film doesn't seem to have been marketed in advance in the US at all. And if another person posting here is right, and this actually was a one-day special release, well, the minuscule ticket sales were to be expected for a foreign language film with zero advance marketing and a very limited release. All of that is aside from the travails and support or lack of support for the lead.

Maiwenn also has another great film, Mon Roi (My King). Vincent Cassel is excellent in it and his role was written with him actually in mind (as he is a womanizer IRL). I never thought of him the same after it, but he is very good in it.

Depp's supporters were reacting to the information, not insane parasocial obsession.

That doesn't translate into ticket sales for an interesting movie for an actor who is essentially retired after decadesg-long career of successful movies.

The fact that you connect a foreign film's unpopularity in US as somehow related to Amber Heard, basically proves the point you are asking about.

PP here. I was mistaken, it was released for a few nights. Ended last night. I am so bummed I missed this!

I hope it lands on Netflix or Prime so I can watch it. And I hope it’s dubbed. I hate reading subtitles.

Depp is a good actor. I’d love to see how he does in a film like this.

Sure - one is about murder and the other is about murder - #1 top topic in the nation.

This was a French movie and not really for an American audience.
