Where is a bike going down Arizona Ave/Canal Road?

This is a good point. You can't connect to the Capitol Crescent Trail at Canal Road, even after the installation of this bike lane.

It's not clear to me why this bike lane even exists and I say that as some who loves to road cycle and appreciates all the new bike infrastructure in DC and the adjacent national park lands (ie, CCT).

A bike lane down Arizona between MacArthur and Canal is a bike lane to nowhere. There's no real shoulder on Canal for cycling and you'd never take a lane on Canal (biking on MacArthur is much safer and preferred routing). And you can't access the Capital Crescent Trail here. It's a bizarre bike lane.

Hopefully there was a plan to connect this to the trail and something else at some point. Maybe we'll see progress in 5 years?

Afternoon rush hour on that street is now a complete sh&tshow

All this for how many cyclists a day?

Who planned this lane and how was pushed through?

*slow golf clap*

I'm proud of you for finding meaning in your life.

D.C. bike lanes are planned to be “performative.”

There's lots of bike lanes that I've never seen a single person use. It's crazy.

I can tell you from personal experience “if you build it they will come” simply does not apply to bike lanes. The only people seeing all these cyclists using the lanes are other cyclists. Hard core cyclists are the very embodiment of entitlement on steroids.

Nobody cares if the bike lanes are used or not. The intent is to punish drivers, because cars are bad.

This is basically it. Crazy that the city is now broke and making cuts to education and support to needy families but somehow still has money for bike lanes. It’s quite deranged actually that kids will go hungry so a literal handful of mostly white guys can have more space to enjoy their hobby.

The quintessential example that bike lanes do not induce usage is Old Georgetown Rd in Montgomery County.

It's especially pointless on this portion of Arizona because any sane person will bike down the side streets Galena Pl and Potomac Ave. Anyone who bikes will know that Arizona from MacArthur down to Canal is extremely steep. No speed benefit from using that bike lane.

You do realize that at the bridge just up Canal road is a stairway. And that stairway goes to the... C&O Canal Towpath. One of the most popular bike trails near the city...

The people pushing bike lanes have prioritzed status over anything else. Those streets might be better suited for bicyclists but they don't have the cachet of a state street.

There's more than $250 million in the mayor's new budget for bike things. While we cut teachers.
