If your student was eligible for Algebra 1 in 7th

When I met with his teacher, she said she will not allow her kids to take algebra in 7th because their brains are not developmentally able to fully understand abstract concepts. I have since read that elsewhere (untangled). My view is just because you can doesn't mean that you should. Especially when we see that college is all a crapshoot. It's the careful balance of being strategic, but enjoying your one life. Same reason he will not go to tj.

I never want my children subjected to adults with such low prejudices of their potential.

If he/she is ready, why not?

Your kid's teacher is a moron. There are many kids out there who are perfectly capable of understanding abstract concepts in 7th grade or earlier. My kids took AP Calculus in 10th and 8th grade, respectively. Neither one had any struggles whatsoever with understanding any of the abstract concepts.

No regrets bc I don’t care about acceleration but good grasp of material. I think if a kid loves math and is strong in it, that’s fine. And mature enough. My second will qualify for Algebra I, does great in math but has ADHD/executive functioning issues. Transitioning to 7th grade will be enough of a challenge.
