The first sentence is incorrect. The second sentence should read: Eventually you will be caught.

Just play dumb and ask. You can only use the “I’m new here and don’t know anything yet” card for so long. Even if the company paid you correctly for reasons you don’t know, you get good points for honesty right off the bat.

Never mind the over payment. They have a copy and they will fix it at some point. Work on that 'desperate for money' part. Hasn't happen to me since I started making half of your salary two years ago.

Be honest about it. When they figure it out they will know you weren’t honest anyway.

It might not be an error. Years ago, I thought I received an overpayment, but I later discovered that an audit caught an error I was unaware of. The extra check was $1,100, which was a lot for a broke 20-year-old back in the 90s. The extra check arrived with no explanation, and I had to research to figure out that it was prompted by an audit. Sometimes audits are good, lol.

FFS Shut up, seriously.

Maybe you're on salary because it's on par for you to have that as your regular paycheck. You just happened come in halfway of the pay period but you still get the same amount in your check every payday.

Kind of a side bar, is this a totally legit job? Not one of those “oops we overpaid you, can you send us the overage” and then they clawback original payment which was a phantom ACH transfer? Happens on Venmo/Paypal all the time.

If you are absolutely sure this is not a shady company, you can raise it with HR and they should be able to roll it back without you cutting a check or anything. They may just deduct from next paycheck, which is the preferable outcome.

Bingo! This one time...someone received a $50K instead of $5K due to fat-fingering. They didn't say a word about the overpaid , but they caught it much later.

Op, ask HR or your boss to ensure. Maybe this is the week where everyone gets a bigger check
For April we had three pay periods instead of the typically two at our work place for example.
