Teen attitude

I remember thinking I was the only logical person around when I was a teen and I also had some terrible perspectives

Why is it fair to push and push and push these kids. They go to school for 7 hours. Practice sports or extracurriculars for 2-3 hours more. Then we expect them to be excited and want to come home and do 2-3 hours of school work.

Teen years are supposed to be fun. There needs to be a better balance. I understand their attitude to be honest

Not the OP, but I think you are misreading this. Hours at the library with friends means not doing his work. He probably doesn't have hours of homework a day.

She literally said comes home at 8:30 and has hours of homework left. What is the PP misreading. Teens having hours of homework after 7 hours of school and 3 hours of sports is crazy.

He probably had 30 minutes of homework and was being dramatic. BTDT.

Yes. I remember homework in HS and I graduated in 1989. I remember writing essays, writing reports, completing math homework, completing lab reports, and a whole host of other work. I had plenty of homework in HS.

And I played 2 sports. And I worked. And I found time to hang out.

I tend to be more surprised that people think that the schedules today are insane because they look a whole lot like mine except that I had to go to the library to do research since there was no internet at the time.

Graduated 1992. Took top classes and the beginning of college credit courses. I had at most 1 hour of HW a night because we all had study hall as a mandatory period.

My varsity practices were 2:30-4:30 (bell was 7:01 to 1:58)

I also worked at the mall and did one 5-9pm shift a week during season and 2-3 off season.

We never had varsity commitments on weekends or breaks. We didn’t have 3.5hrs of practice each day and Sat practices of there isn’t a game. We didn’t have travel sports that take up 5+ weekday hours and 3 out of 4 weekends a month. We didn’t have “take as many courses during the school year and add a few for summer school to get ahead. We didn’t push for a ton of clubs and leadership positions to college resume build. And we didn’t have 3-4 AP’s s year where each teacher specifies an hour of homework a night.

It’s not the same.

So which is it. You are rationalizing that teens are grossly over-worked for honestly really no reason at all

OP here and I didn't post that response about 30 minutes, but he actually rarely has any homework. Last night he had two hours, only because he put off doing it and it accumulated. He could have done 10 mins for a few days and been done with it. Again, I'm not an intense parent and he truly has very little work usually. I get that some kids have many APs and a big course load...He is not one of them.
