GOING TO DALLAS FIRST TIME SURPRISE BDAY TRIP FOR MY SISTER AND HUSBAND NEED HELP!

Don't miss the Sixth Floor Museum and the Grassy Knoll. Head to the Fort Worth Stockyards for honky tonk and rodeo.

If sister and DH have "always" wanted to go to Dallas, what is their attraction to it? It's fine, but not exactly a destination to aspire to.

have not heard of this one will check. it out.

my husband loves what he perceives as Texan/western culture.

can someone speak to the Rosewood in Dallas vs The Auberge in Fort Worth?

I haven't been to the Mansion on Turtle Creek (in Oak Lawn) in ages, but it used to be a highly sought hotel in Dallas. Nearby is Reunion Tower. Adolphus (just south of the Mansion in downtown) is very nice as a PP mentioned.

You could stay at either, then take Preston up to the Highland Park Villages to shop (high end) and have lunch. You could keep going north and hit North Park Center. It used to be a destination shopping center. Now it's just a nice mall. Galleria is north of NPC.

I'm not sure if someone who moved here 15 years ago will understand or care about the significance of "the grassy knoll" in Dealey Plaza, where Kennedy was assassinated. Also, you used to be able to drive out and see Southfork Ranch if they watched the tv show Dallas. I never went, but I've heard it's a little bit like seeing The White House in the media, then seeing it in person for the first time and it looks tiny, especially in terms of its surroundings.

Rodeos are generally annual events. I'd Google it. But a trip to the stockyards in Fort Worth might worth the trip if an auction is going on.

To navigate, primarily think of staying in the rectangle of downtown north to 635, west to the Tollway, east to 75 adding in White Rock Lake and the Arboretum if that is of interest. This has nothing to do with safety, but geographically Dallas is just so big that it's best to have a more narrow focus to start.

I'm not help with Tex-Mex.

Good luck and have a great time.

If your husband is interested in Texan/Western culture, Dallas really isn't the place. The DFW metroplex competes with Houston for the 4th largest city in the US. Both are very cosmopolitan. I'd Google when rodeos are in town, when the Stockyard has auctions.

You might have better luck going to San Antonio. Take the Riverwalk, go to the Alamo. Their shopping is about the same as Dallas.

I believe the Rosewood in Dallas is the Mansion on Turtle Creek.

Dallas is not the place for “Texan” culture. Try San Antonio and/or Austin

From your wish list, it honestly sounds like you should visit Fort Worth. Fort Worth has The Stockyards for your honky tonk bars and rodeo culture.

someone who moved to this country only 15 years ago.

? I'm a foreigner, know lots of foreigners, and nobody I know has ever expressed such an interest. But you're very kind to prepare a visit for them, OP.

I was just there.

Yuck who does this?

If you must OP please do not tell anyone this was your idea.

You could try El Fenix for tex mex. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's been open for over 100 years which is impressive

We do..is Texas really that bad? I would be happy to tell anyone its my idea, its not like I am going to Compton or Detroit for Pete's sake, get off your high horse, you sound utterly miserable.
I am treating two people I care for to a trip they have wanted to take, you want to criticize that, that's on you.
