AP classes vs same college course

And btw don't go too credit heavy that first semester of college, even if repeating Calc.

Anonymous wrote:General rule is if it is a stem major to retake calc 2 even if you got a 5 on calc BC. That allows you to truly understand it & they may cover additional items that you need to progress at that school. Hopefully it will be an easy course, make transitioning to college easier, and boost gpa. Same goes for bio and chem AP if a science major.

Take credit for classes not related to your major - apes, apush , Spanish etc.

There is often an intensified/advanced/honors option to make the retake more meaningful.

My kid repeated all of her AP classes in college

>Saw no reason to shorten/rush through her college experience

>nothing wrong with a refresher, taught by a PhD (vs high school teacher)

>contributed to a higher GPA (which helps with grad school admission)

> freshmen are adjusting to new responsibilities and freedoms. Since you don’t know how your kid will handle that, why not start off with academic material that is somewhat familiar (vs a heavy/challenging initial course load)?

That was our logic. And she did very well.

This! It was helpful for DD to retake in order to have complete mastery. It also provided an "easier" class during all of the other things that freshman have to deal with their first year (dorm life, time management, profs, food, etc)

+1. DC earned As in classes he could have skipped. It helps build a solid GPA when applying for internships.

One can skip into the harder levels of Calculus and still earn As. Going for the easy GPA strikes as somewhat lazy

NP-Do you always call other people's kids lazy? Or just on anonymous forums where the person can't skull drag you?

It is for one semester—not taking basket weaving for your entire college career.

Also, it is very smart if you know your kid will be facing a competitive pool for grad school admissions .

If there is room in the schedule, why not? I retook a couple (statistics) classes from my MS to my PhD, and felt like a had such a strong grasp of the subject after the second time.

If it isn't related to their major then I probably wouldn't, though.

difference college accept varying AP scores and give varying credit. I know for Cornell engineering, they only accept 5 for AP Calc BC and only let you skip the first calc class.
