If it’s appropriate given the power dynamics, just ask them out. You don’t need to do this kind of dumb little dance. It’s 2024!

If she’s in wash dc it is summer weather this week. A dress would be perfect.

OP here, de zone ng the opportunity of the 90 degree day today to wear a dress (not a sundress, it's black and has cap sleeves, but is jersey and definitely shows off my assets). Blowing out my hair and hoping my office colleagues just think I'm embracing the warm weather with some joie de vivre and don't realize I'm dressing up for our guest!

^ seizing, not de zone ng. Autocorrect fail.

You have to let us know how it goes! However it turns out, I hope you feel beautiful and enjoy yourself :)

So you need to find a casual outfit that flatters your figure and that's the right color for your skin tone. Do you have an hourglass figure? Wear something that defines your waist. Do you have nice legs? Maybe you want a casual skirt, or skinny pants. Maybe you have a cute top with a decolletage (appropriate for work) that frames your upper torso and face nicely. Play up your best features. Don't overdo the make-up. Jewelry is merely a vehicle to draw attention to certain parts of your body. Use sparingly for best effect.

And a word to the wise. You're scared people will know you want attention if you dress a certain way. No. People try on various styles depending on their moods. No one will put 2 and 2 together, as in "Larla put on this fitted dress to meet Larlo!". And if one person does. SO WHAT? No one will care.

I might put one spin on the dressing up. I’ve noticed that when I dress, people don’t assume I’m playing with style. Rather they assume there is a professional event worthy of dressing up. So people are likely to think that you are dressing up for the guest because you want to make a good professional impression, which on top of everything I am sure you do! (Another way of saying don’t get embarrassed if people assume you are dressing up for X. They don’t necessarily mean romantically).

OP here and thank you all for encouraging me to wear a dress. I've gotten a ton of compliments today, and feeling like my best self around my crush, who I'm doing post-work drinks with later (with others as well, but still). So glad I get to do drinks in a cute dress instead of my usual jeans, which would be too hot today anyway!

Having a pretty swell Monday, thanks DCUM for the tips!
