Breast lump - freaking up

I'm also in the middle of this- felt a lump, saw my PCP last Tuesday and have a diagnostic/ultrasound scheduled next Monday. I'm trying to remain calm and trying to remember that it could be other things. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies. I called my gyn and she was nice enough to squeeze me in. Just left the office and she felt the lump and ordered a diagnostic Mammo and ultrasound to check it out. One of the nurses is calling around for me since every place is booked solid for the next month, so fingers crossed she can find something. Now the waiting game begins…

How did you know what it was with no testing?

Really sorry you’re going through this too. Hope it’s nothing for both of us!

PP who is also going through this here- I hope they are able to find something soon! This waiting is rotten, especially after the lump is confirmed (I had convinced myself that I was not really feeling one).

Does anyone know what the wait time is between a diagnostic mammo/ultrasound and a biopsy? I'm hoping it's not another 2+ week wait. I know it probably varies, but would love to hear people's experience.

Depends on where you go, but I’ve had one and it was another 2 week wait. They do try to get you in though when something is suspicious.

Hugs, OP. The waiting was the worst. Nothing to do but THINK. For a year or two afterwards, I couldn't eat the meal that we had for dinner the night after the ultrasound that determined the lump was "suspicious" and that I would need a biopsy.

I was able to get the biopsy a week after the ultrasound but I had to call around a bunch of offices. Frankly I didn't care who did the biopsy - I just wanted it done.

FWIW mine was benign.

PP with lipoma here. I had a fine needle biopsy instead of a mammogram. They also did an ultrasound if I am remembering correctly.

It probably will be a week or two. And then maybe another week for pathology.

Anonymous wrote:Found a lump in my breast yesterday AM. It’s pea sized and hard and moves around (no pain). It’s definitely there, have felt it repeatedly since. No clue how long it has been there but did have a mammogram in January that was clear, but I do have dense breasts.

Going to call my doctor tomorrow AM, but what is the typical chain of events - assume I will need to go see the doctor so she can feel it, and then what kind of testing is typical? It’s always so hard to get appts and I hate to drag this out for months just because I can’t get a Mammo/US appt - do they typically expedite when there is something suspicious?

Did anyone have a hard pea sized lump that ended up being benign? It’s definitely not cyst like, more pebble like.

Very freaked out. This is my first lump. I am mid-40s and have young kids.

This is exactly how I would describe my lump- it was a cyst.

Moving around is a great sign it’s benign! Try not to dwell…easier said than done I know.

I’m the pp (not OP) to this thread that had also found a lump. Just had my diagnostic mammogram today and the lump is actually just dense tissue that kind of ends in a node. Not sure if that makes sense, but thought I’d share good and hopeful news!

This is the OP… so happy you got good news. You must be so relieved. Did your lump feel hard out of curiosity?

My diagnostic Mammo is Friday PM and I am really hoping there is a radiologist who will read it on site so I don’t have to stress over the weekend about results.

I hope so, too OP.

Just keep in mind even if they THINK they know what it is on mammo, they will often biopsy to be 100% sure. I have had two. It’s scary. But many times benign.
