Can’t the employees at designer stores tell that they’re being handed a fake? I would imagine they inspect returns.

Yes. The only fakes people could ever return to a store were the super fakes and those are still several hundred dollars and people have been on to that scam for years now.

I attended an event last week where I was sitting behind a woman with a YSL bag. It wasn't a cheap knock off, but, given how much I feel I see these bags in my life, the gold hardware felt just a bit off.
