Ymmv, but even though I WFH, our school is a 15 minute drive if traffic cooperates, and our doctor’s office is another 30 minutes from the school. That’s 90 minutes of driving, assuming traffic cooperates, plus the time at the doctor, let’s say an hour. I’m not doing this just so they can spend a couple hours at school.

So everyone your kid has any appointment, they miss the entries day?? Nuts.

I didn’t say that, I usually schedule them after school. But if I had no other choice, this is what I would unapologetically do.

I'll often take my kids to the dentist or doctor midday, as that usually means they only miss lunch and/or recess, but our appointments are only 5 minutes away.

OP, I'd possibly let her skip specials like art, PE or music, but she'd go to school if she could make a core subject.

Usually they would go back unless there was an extenuating circumstance of some kind. My teens can walk into school and check themselves in with a doctor note so it takes like 2 minutes of my time to drop them.

If they have their transportation home from school, I'll send them back to finish up. Otherwise no. Not going to go to school twice in one afternoon

Better ways to learn han sitting in a car all day. Your child can't learn at home?? Nuts.

This is what we do. Kid is now in private so transportation is me so I'd pick him up for the appointment and he wouldn't go back. When he was in private and had a bus home I'd send him back if there was any meaningful time left in the day. Otherwise we'd just go home.

I literally just took my child to a 1230 dentist appointment. He went to school, picked him up at 12 for appointment. I would have taken him back to school but he’d missed lunch by this point, was still numb from a filling and there was only an hour left. So he stayed home.

Not under any circumstances would I keep him home all day! That’s nuts.

Completely depends on the schedule. Missing algebra is a no because they need to be there, but missing PE, engineering or Study time. He isn’t coming back.

Half day - depending on which classes were morning or afternoon would depend on which one I’d do - I tend to prioritize math as missing instruction is harder to make up

Well I don’t schedule appointments at that time unless it’s some sort of hard to get specialist which is almost never. Well visits, dentist, ortho, eye dr are all routine and I’d schedule for morning before 10 or end of the day 230 at earliest or later if possible.

Also for work purposes. As I have a job.

I currently would probably do a half day for a 1230 appt but that’s bc my kids go to public school and we live 10m from the school and most of our routine places like ortho or dentist and ped are all in the same 10m drive

NP and my kids rarely ever have mid day appointments. The hardest were when they had braces but we were usually able to schedule first thing before school or at the end of the day after school. I don’t work from home and I do whatever is most convenient for my work schedule. It’s usually not possible for me to leave work in time to pick them up at school, 30 min from work, get to the appointment and then drop them back off at school if it’s mid day. FYI I’m also a teacher. My kids would stay home for the day.

I don’t get what you’re saying at all, sorry.

My child is in an ES with the same hours and she goes in the morning, I pick her up for her appointment, and then she goes back for the afternoon. Since it's lunchtime, you can get your child a fast food lunch as a treat.

I’d give my kid the day off if he requested but he’s not the type to ask to miss school.

I would drop off my kid before and after. An appointment for our kids is just an hour out of school.
