Its to create balance generally. You don't want 5 special needs kids with shadow companions all in the same class, you want one in each class. Etc |
Wouldn't special needs and ESOL kids get MORE help if they were all in one class? Versus split amongst 4 classes. The teacher could teach on a remedial level instead. |
Question. I though those special need kids with IEP or ESOL kids were identified when parents register them, isn't it? During online K registeration, they ask about if kids have special needs, IEP or ESOL (speak foreign language at home). |
This is such an excellent idea. How can you effectively put together a class if you don’t know the participants. |
I like the idea too. My school has interviews and orientation. |
Do you think all SN look alike and have the same needs? |
Mine did this
|
My dyslexic kid does not need to be taught on a remedial level. Thanks. |
My dyslexic kid is very bright and does not need remedial teaching. |
If has nothing to do with the same needs but there is something "special" required which can stretch one teacher too thin. But a dedicated teacher with a much smaller teacher:student ratio could probably better serve them than having 5 in a class of 25. The teacher gets overburdened trying to meet all the needs. |
My point exactly. Some kids with SN need just pull out speech while others might be destroying classrooms. To say kids with SN should all be lumped together is just ignorant. |
My kids school does this. It generally works out well. A paraprofessional says with the group all week in all of the classrooms The first week, they generally have kids from the same preschool together and then they mix them up. My very shy kid made a friend that first week and they intentionally kept them together. I’ve had two kids go through this and it’s been fine both times. |
They don't do it for the kids. They do it to make it easier for the special ed teacher to deliver specialized instruction. |
Huh? Because delivering specialized instruction isn't for the kids? |
As a kindergarten parent, I wish our school had done that the year. It would have resulted in much more balanced K classes. |
