PE and recess. Most active kids want full range of motion for those highlights of their day My 13 year old daughter has always LOVED long dresses and skirts, but at school she prefers leggings and pants, and skorts in the summer, because at her school most kids don't change for PE. In elementary school, she wore the same to enjoy recess. Skorts, as in shorter skirts with built-in shorts. No long dresses or long skirts at school, because of stairs. At home and on weekends, it's FULL ON COTTAGE CORE and REN FAIRE! |
It must be. Weird |
Why do you care? I highly doubt your MIL is going on to you about how her son’s wife dresses and what their child is wearing. It sounds like you are a busy body or stirring gossip, or just making things up |
Here’s an idea. Why don’t you or MIL ask the child what clothes she likes? Given that your family is apparently all up in each other’s business, I don’t see why you don’t prioritize her opinion the most. |
This. I actually think it could be the little girl just doesn't like dresses and the family is sick of Mil nagging so BIL made up this excuse that makes him sound more macho and controlling as otherwise Mil will say she can't believe they let a child decide. Don't give them any thought. |
OP's repeated stressing of 'she wears dresses, but she DOES HAVE BOYSHORTS UNDERNEATH' is weird.

Weird weird weird |
I cannot imagine how this is any of your business.
Never mind your MIL’s. Your BIL and SIL would be smart to ignore her and refuse to engage. I have two daughters and both started to dress in full athleisure at about 8. It’s much more comfortable and versatile for recess/PE/layers to deal with cold/warm changes. The only rules we have involve keeping your butt, stomach, and bra straps covered. |
For some reason my brain read this with an Eastern European accent. So weird. |
