SYC tryouts in April (boys) (U13-U19)

One thing I am curious about is the Club lead tournaments. For SYC, we have to pay to play in the in Virginian and it is a mandatory tournament that every team has to play in.

Also, the ID session that was held a few weeks ago was to fill the MLSN and MLSN II teams.

Yeah, and you definitely don't get development. Who knows were that happens. SYC just goes out and sells the MLS team to the best players they can find. Maybe the development happens at the boys original clubs.

That’s what I thought, but when emailed SYC they said tryouts are for MLSN and MLSN II as well…

Of course they told you that. They want your money to support the MLSN team. They may even promise you that your son can practice with the MLSN team or that your son will get an opportunity to play with the MLSN team. Anything to market that MLSN brand and separate you from your cash.

Buyer Beware!!

The MLS level team gets no help from the fees collected from the lower team, that's unfounded rumors. In fact, the club fees are much higher and there is much more travel required that financially shocks parents whose kid joins the first time. That's the costs parents need to be understand and play for.

I know SYC, Alex, Beth give scholarships. No $ 3,000 club costs. GFR, Arlington and other clubs do this too for their top teams players.

How would one go about asking to be considered for the scholarship? There's nothing mentioned officially about the process to apply for a scholarship? The criteria to receive one, etc... Hate when clubs are not transparent or open about things like this and comes across as a shady business, and plays favoritism.

All clubs placement all players who came to tryouts will receive an offer, not just SYC. All depends on where your DS/DD is placed.

They are for low income players. Is your kid on Medicaid or 100% free lunch? Then you might qualify for a discount. Some clubs required scholarship families to do work to make up the difference (e.g., lining fields, working in a snack shack, etc.)
