I would rent an air bnb in la jolla if you can swing it. august is usually the best time of the year, its not disgustingly humid, water is great, great food all over and if you get tired of the beach there are other things to do.

Aruba. Less chance of a hurricane. |
FL has a ton of sargassum seaweed in the summer. I learned that the hard way. Makes going to the beach a horrible experience. The smell is awful, and you can't find a spot without the seaweed. The city and resorts try to clear it, but there's so much of it, they just kind of give up. |
Agreed! North of San Diego is just perfect in August. All the way up to Carlsbad, there are great beach towns. Note that the water isn't hot like Florida, but my kids were happy in the waves for hours. |
Panama. We worked remotely from Bocas del Toro and it was fantastic. |
In August? How was the rain? |
The Strand in Curacao |
Agree. Look for some type of lobster fest. Went to Miami last August and all the beaches had sea weed everywhere that time of year. Not sure if that’s normal but it stank so when I go back it won’t be august |
The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. |
For actual nice beaches, consider Cancun or Playa del Carmen. It is on the Caribbean side of Mexico and has much nicer beaches than a lot of Central America. I loved Costa Rica, but I didn’t go there really for the beaches. |
Why do you want to go somewhere hot in August? I think the coast of Maine is a great suggestion |
