Affirming, post-evangelical community

Lol... It's been one day? I don't live on this forum? If you're here to get thanks and deep conversation, you probably need a different forum.

My husband and I have recently decided to move to a queer affirming church. This is a big change from our tradition, and we are a bit unmoored in where to go. Mainline affirming churches don't feel right for a few reasons, one of which being that they seem to lean heavy on older, more traditional worship styles. Which are great! Just not what we connect best with.

What churches are out there (ideally within 20 min of Arlington), that are affirming, still hold a high view of Scripture, and have a more modern environment?

What church are you leaving?

Op, have you spoken to your pastor about why you are leaving? what did he say?

I'm assuming they are leaving because the pastor spoke on this issue to the congregation. His views are probably well-known. What would a conversation with him accomplish? It's not like he is going to change his mind.

Unitarian here to dissuade you. I love my church but it is absolutely not what you’re looking for. Far from being scripture based, it’s not even necessarily Christian.

Good luck!

It would be interesting to hear if op and her husband spoke to the pastor about this specific issue and what he replied.

Good luck, OP. My family chose an affirming church with "old" liturgical traditions, because it was nearby and because it turns out we found some solace in the rhythm of the liturgy.

I know what you are looking for, though, and have seen that at UCC churches for sure.

Look for churches with “All are Welcome” and rainbow flags. I’ve seen a few in South Arlington.

Thanks. At least one person knows what I mean. But yes, we are also open to other environments and I grew up in a liturgical tradition so we are willing to try it. Especially if it's the best way to stay local because I think local community is so important?

For those curious about why we are making this choice or who is involved in it, that's not what this thread is about. I was just asking for recs. Not to go into my whole spiritual journey.

It is truly a lot to grieve and process and I don't want to do that here.

OP, from the ChurchinBethesda link above, this from the pastor's bio: "Ryan has a special place in his heart for those who have been damaged or disillusioned by the church, and longs to lead those within it toward a more just and generous expression of itself."
