Ozempic/semaglutide alternatives for weight loss

PLEASE STOP SAYING OZEMPIC FOR WEIGHT LOSS.
There are many many weight loss drugs on the market. OP: do a deep dive into the options. I have lost >50 lbs on Wegovy. I invested time researching options and what my insurance would cover.
The big problem is responses like what you are getting here. Fat shaming is not going anywhere. Weight loss drugs are consistently coming to market. Some of these drugs are showing signs of helping in areas other than obesity, like heart disease. And it’s not because weight loss is good for heart health. These drugs are amazing.
No one will take you seriously if you mention Ozempic in the same sentence as weight loss.

I can’t stand being around anyone on WW.

Sounds like a win win, then.

I am the poster you are responding to. If you’re trying to put me down, you’re not. It is a WW for both of us. 😊

I'm just on here to say that my nephrologist prescribed this off label for CKD based on a recent GLP-1 NIH study on other uses besides diabetes and weight-loss. I've taken a very low dose now for 2 months and have seen an improvement (based on labs) in my kidney function, creatinine is down to almost within normal range for my race/age/gender and other needles have moved positively as well. He thinks I will be off HTN meds within a month or two, we just had to adjust my dose down and I'm sure we will have to do it again. This is in addition to a mostly healthy diet and I do exercise 4-5 times a week hard cardio on a stair master with weight training after. Weight is okay, I've maybe dropped about 7lbs, nothing to get excited over, and the only side effects have been acid reflux a day or two after dosing. I've lived with CKD almost 20 years and fight every day to stay off the transplant list or need dialysis. GLP-1s are a miracle.

I was on it for 3 months and didn't get any benefit. I didn't have side effects but it also did not help with weight loss. It didn't suppress my appetite or my carbohydrate/sugars cravings. It's cheap and safe so it's worth a try because it is helpful to some people.

This has been my experience as well. No noticeable difference from an appetite perspective (though I've found the Wellbutrin mood/attention effects to be beneficial).

I have been on Mounjaro since last fall and I am down 30 lbs, and my blood pressure has decreased as well. No cravings, no "food noise" - it's amazing. I pay $550 a month out of pocket with the manufacturer coupon. I honestly save at least that much on food.

My endocrinologist wouldn’t prescribe it.said I wouldn’t like it.

Insisted Zepbound was the way to go.

If I’m remembering correctly, Cobtrave was not for me because of kidney stones.

I’ve used Phentermine in the past and it works though I can say Zepbound is much better.

Phentermine is cheaper though

Perhaps the least helpful response.

You’ve got a firm grasp of the obvious. It’s not going to work for everyone.

How does one get a Mounjaro prescription?

Cigna covers nothing for WL. My doctor prescribed Wegovy and I spent all day yesterday on chats with insurance, rx plans, and advocates. They went through every alternative Rx - nothing. I need to find out OOP costs with coupon but am not feeling optimistic.

I'm postmenopausal, prediabetic (per A1C) with high but not critical glucose levels and a few other test results that were not there prior to 25lb gain over 2 years.
