Hydrangea question

My guess is that you had endless summer hydrangeas and this area was at one point mostly shaded. In this zone, these hydrangeas do not like the hot afternoon sun, and really only want a few hours in the morning. However, if they are mature, they may do ok with this sun. Yours are no longer mature, and I would guess a lost cause.

Take a look at limelight or another oakleaf/panicle variety that can tolerate the hot sun. Limelights are a guaranty in the sun, and are the closest panicle variety to the round shape, but they are white to very light green. There are other varieties with some color (particularly pink/red) but to my knowledge nothing which approximates the gorgeous blue/pink color of the endless summers.

Deer chomp on mine too. But my neighbor planted some last year about 60 feet away and the deer did not touch them. Not sure what kind the got. I’m watching them this year to see what happens.

Agree with this. My previously thriving endless summers suffered when a nearby tree fell down that was providing them afternoon shade. I eventually replanted them elsewhere in the yard. I prune/cut down my endless summers every year after the blooms fade, and they come back beautifully.
