I remember growing up in the first generation of girls to really play sports, with the dads all coaching and cheering us on. DH and I were at one of our daughter's games the other day and realized, hey, all the coaches now are moms. Women's sports have developed followings and interest. It was basically affirmative action for women's sports (I know this will make my point sound even worse) but a lot of the structural barriers for women - even more so than with race - have been removed imo.
Race isn’t a valid comparison. Women’s sports are affirmative action for sports. Maybe the special Olympics would be a more precise comparison. Unlike with race, Women literally cannot compete with men. This is a biological reality.
