The Chinese govt absolutely knows 1000% how they're contributing to the fentanyl crisis in the US. I think widespread marijuana legalization has given young people the false impression that all drugs are safe and fun. That was a mistake.

The Chinese govt aren't idiots. They are strategic and methodical. Their intentions are disgusting but in terms of having their shit together I offer the American govt as evidence of foolishness. Say what you will about China, what country doesn't have their problems but the also have plans for how they fare internationally which is more than we can pull off. In this country our political parties are at odds within their own organizations! We can't even get our shit together within our own borders never mind allowing a criminal to potentially pardon himself from all illegal behaviors. We have a sky high national debt that isn't helped by engaging in every foreign mess like Ukraine, Gaza and Israel - we are a holy mess so before we talk about how bad China is maybe we focus on taking care of business in the US first? China wouldn't have a leg to stand on in their approach to leveraging black market drugs in US if we weren't so vulnerable in the first place. We can't control what evil lurk in the would but we can build our own strength.

That is all related to the opium wars and western colonialism in China. If you listen to modern Chinese nationalists, they want nothing more than to payback all those who they think did them wrong during their ‘century of humiliation’.

China considers the U.S. its rival. Fentanyl is a very cheap way to distract the U.S. and destabilize it without full on military conflict. It’s asymmetrical warfare. They’d love nothing more than to poison the country as much as possible before say an invasion of Taiwan.
