This was in DC? |
Same here. Maybe OP is looking at places further out, not beach towns? Downtown Rehoboth, Bethany, and Lewes are pretty safe. |
I don't get your post. Are you in denial? The first sentence of the post, "Doing some research on Delaware and Lewes, Bethany Beach, Rehoboth beaches for a possible move/extended year rental" then a few posts down links showing the horrible crime in the area. Why would you post, "Maybe OP is looking at places further out, not beach towns" when both the title and the first sentence of the post confirms where they're looking? It's totally asinine. |
Yikes, settle down. I too have a house in Bethany (South Bethany) and spend a lot of time there, and I have never heard of any crime whatsoever. Kind of strange. Maybe in Ocean City because there are many more "party" tourists. And maybe a little in Dewey, I don't know. But definitely not in Rehoboth or Bethany, at least not anywhere near the main nice parts. |
Can’t name where I work but in MD |
Listen, the zip codes at the beach cover very wide areas of divergent housing stock and SES. If you zoom in on the very pricy property within a few blocks of the beach, you will see the only crime is occasional public drunkenness or maybe a bar fight. But cross over Route 1, or hang out near some of the Wawas, mobile home parks, etc, and it is a different story. Lots of what is now sold as “Bethany,” “Lewes,” and “Rehoboth Beach” are former corn fields. If you are in the legal limits of the actual towns, the crime is much, much lower than here and the police presence is much more obvious. |
PP again. I should say I physically relax at the beach. Not only is crime far, far lower than in this area, but no one is trying to run you over while you cross the street! |
Well, you could start with the fact that the neighborhoodscout site (I haven't bothered looking any further) indicates that Rehoboth has a population of 1,187, which obviously does not remotely reflect the number of people there on any given summer weekend. So your per capita rate is going to be very, very skewed. |
And the next link says Bethany has 936 residents. So this helpfully scraped data doesn't really tell you anything at all. |
I’m sorry, those links posted are utter BS and I would never consider them when thinking about a place to visit/live. |
+1. Beach house in Bethany. Sometimes when we are down, we forget to lock the front door or car and no issues. We have an active HOA and would totally hear about crime in the neighborhood, not to mention neighbors that live year round in Bethany who know everything going on in the neighborhood. Totally safe and more small town feel in our neighborhood where everyone walks their dog and says hi even if they don’t know you. |
Uh no Bethany and Ocean View are not. Ocean View police are worthless. |
So where is your source saying crime is not an issue in that area? So much denial here... |
Here are your actual statistics from the state of Delaware. You're welcome. https://sac.delaware.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/64/2024/02/Crime-in-Delaware-2018-2022.pdf |
