Stick with Gonzaga for sure.

I can relate to your whole post, but especially to this part. I'm happy for my kid's success but this is going to be difficult.

Same! We've already had to sign a contract for the private. So aren't we financially obligated?

Read the contract. In most cases, you can walk away before some date (often June 1) and you lose the deposit but are not on the hook for the entire tuition.

Ah yes, I see it. Thank you!

Same situation, but with Walls.

That is indeed a factor to consider!

Honestly there are big cultural differences between the schools. Plus girls. Makes the decision easier. Depends on what’s important to your kid and family.

Plain + simple...if you can afford private...go private. If you can't afford private...you have no option but public/ charter.

We have 2 kids and are Catholic in public school. I think the cost will change our standard of living significantly. Walls seems ok, but what about me next kid. DCPS changes the rules for walls seemingly every year. There’s no guarantee my next child will get in at private either, but particularly with Catholic schools, I doubt they will turn down my next kid.

My kid missed out on Walls and so we haven’t looked at it carefully, but what I’ve read suggests that it offers an academic experience that is probably on par with the second tier of private schools but which is well shy of first tier privates and MoCo / VA magnets. My sense is that Gonzaga probably offers a better all-round education but the associated financial sacrifices may not be worth it for everyone.
