I don't think I've ever had an amazing hot cross bun. People make far more out of them then they're really supposed to be: a plain, lightly spiced bun with raisins and/or dried fruit and a cross on the top made with icing sugar. I've definitely had mediocre ones but never a great one. |
I started making my own in the pandemic and they are delicious when they are fresh. I also soak my fruit in rum which adds a nice zing to them. |
Order from Bread Furst in NW. |
Any hot cross buns WITHOUT the awful frosting cross? (Looking for ones with the dough cross that are baked in) |
Do they take orders |
The frosting is why I eat hot cross buns! |
OP here reporting back. Had a crazy week, and went to Whole Foods today to buy some, but they had none. Weird. Aren't they supposed to be eaten on Good Friday?

Yes- tradition is Good Friday. I make a variation b/c I never found any I liked in stores. |
Was just in TJ and someone had some in their basket. |

It’s a bit late to do so now. |
+1 I don’t like them either. Dry! |
