This is a wonderful book! |
“Fleishman is in Touble” and “Sex In the City.”
|
I’ll add Brooklyn by Colm Toibin. And +1 to Rules of Civility and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn |
Goldfinch! |
Let the Great World Spin is not a memoir but is set in NYC and includes Petit's tightrope walk between the Twin Towers. |
Between Two Kingdoms. A memoir not set entirely in NYC but maybe enough? |
Call It Sleep by Henry Roth |
Indiscretion by Charles Dubow, if you are OK with East Hampton and Paris also as major settings. |
It takes place all over the place--Las Vegas, Amsterdam. I didn't think it was a very good book, either, but opinions obviously differ. |
Rules of Civility is FANTASTIC! |
Time and Again by Jack Finney - I read and re-read and re-read this novel as a teenager
Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser - still considered by many the greatest American urban novel, takes place in Chicago and NYC |
OMG I forgot about Time and Again. I ADORED that book!!!!! |
M Train by Patti Smith |
Have you read New York by Edward Rutherfurd? It's quite good and spans several generations. |
Not memoir like, but in Book Lovers by Emily Henry the main character is deeply in love with NYC. The audiobook is well done. I hate the place but now have a new appreciation for the parts of it that are magical to its fans. |
