Let the Great World Spin is not a memoir but is set in NYC and includes Petit's tightrope walk between the Twin Towers.

Time and Again by Jack Finney - I read and re-read and re-read this novel as a teenager

Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser - still considered by many the greatest American urban novel, takes place in Chicago and NYC

Have you read New York by Edward Rutherfurd? It's quite good and spans several generations.

Not memoir like, but in Book Lovers by Emily Henry the main character is deeply in love with NYC. The audiobook is well done. I hate the place but now have a new appreciation for the parts of it that are magical to its fans.
