Able to get pregnant, unable to stay pregnant

Anonymous
I went through a lot of losses. Turns out I have a genetic mutation called balanced cell translocation and it’s not uncommon (and either parent can be a carrier). Each pregnancy became a 50-50 chance of being non-viable and I was unlucky. We did have a couple of successful pregnancies in there though. Wishing you the best.

^^^I was also put on supplemental progesterone during my successful pregnancies.

I had 5 losses before finally conceiving my now 20 month old son. He was born 6 weeks early due to me developing preeclampsia. I had a c section and my placenta was sent to pathology and SO many things came back that were bad with my placenta. My Dr said it’s actually a miracle my son lasted until 34 weeks with all the issues with my placenta and we now wonder if all my losses were due to placenta issues. We are currently TTC #2 and I’ve again had 3 losses in a row (chemical, blighted ovum + another chemical). So I can get pregnant but again, keep losing the pregnancies.

You most likely have immunology issues. The preE and bad placenta are all signs that your immune system is attacking the pregnancy.

yes this! See a reproductive immunologist. I had severe pre-E with my first at 29 weeks. Lost three more babies (1 ectopic and 2 early miscarriages of genetically normal babies even while on lovenox because of blood clotting disorder) and my tubes and had a number of failed IVF transfers (1 of a top graded genetically normal embryo). Went to see reproductive immunologist and had all the tests done. Yup, immune issues. Number 2 has been an epic ordeal for me too.

I’m sorry to hear this. What treatment have they recommended now for number 2?

Predisnone, baby aspirin, lovenox, plaquenil, and IVIG

So you have lupus?

No - not the PP but also going through the RI protocol. I don't have Lupus. If I did, I would've been taken seriously years ago.

Clotting disorder = baby aspirin, lovenox
Immune cell dysfunction = plaquenil, IVIG

In my case I have extremely high levels of inflammation (TNF alpha) that's being treated by plaq and pred.

PP here who is on all that stuff. Exact same issues here. High levels of inflammation (TNF alpha) being treated by plaq and pred. Have HLA-C and KIR mismatches, hence the IVIG. Lovenox and baby aspirin for genetic blood clotting issues. And like you said, if I had lupus, REs would not have just given me the "well then your eggs suck" song and dance, and actually considered immune treatments. I only wound up at a RI because I ran out of real explanations and turned to Dr. Beer's book "Is Your Body Baby Friendly"

Yep, very familiar! In my case, I lost 15 week baby chromosomally normal conceived naturally and then a 11 week IVF PGT tested (becausethey said IVF would solve my issue). It was so obvious I had a clotting disorder but everyone refused to put me on Lovonox. So I went to RI who found the clotting disorder and put me on protocol.

PP who asked about lupus. My teen daughter has just been diagnosed with lupus and put on Plaquenil, it's why I asked. Her bloodwork came back with several antibodies levels that were EXTREMELY elevated. There's a ton of inflammation there.

Wishing you all the best.

I'm not blaming you for asking. Lupus is a treatable disease. Recurrent pregnancy loss without a diagnosis isn't. Doctors blow you off as soon as you test negative for lupus.

Op did you use IVF yet? I had the yolk sac issue and my ob said that IVF may be needed to pick out the genetically normal eggs. She told me to try again asap after the miscarriage and see if we could hit the lottery with a normal embryo. I got pregnant quickly with a genetically normal embryo but needed progesterone in the first trimester.

OP here. We have not tried IVF yet. One of our miscarriages was genetically normal and the other two we were unable to test.
