not the PP but that’s for live in. That’s $480 for a 40 hour week. No rent/utilities to pay.

Its illegal to deduct room and board from live in nannies

You can pay them a lower rate though, so long as it’s not below minimum wage. $12/hr is legal in a lot of states.

Only a fool, homeless, ot undocumented would accept $12/,,hr for live in or live out. Live in is a convenience for employer s d should pay accordingly.

You come here and repeat the same thing all the time. While I think $12 is low/illegal, how is live in a convenience for employer? You are crazy.

Not pp, but this is true. Having the nanny live-in means they are there when you need to leave early or arrive late without having to take commuting into consideration. It can make for blurred boundaries when children want to spend time with the nanny off the clock. Having to share living space and walls with your employer makes it hard to decompress and feel truly off.

All these pay rate threads end up with people arguing about how underpaid nannies are.

When I lived in DC proper (2 years ago), my nanny's final hourly rate was $34/hr (started at $30/hr) with your standard benefits package - leave, health insurance stipend, etc.

I took a huge pay cut for a remote job and moved to Loudoun County, VA. My nanny's current hourly rate is $27/hr (started at $25/hr). All benefits stated above.

The hourly rate really depends on where you live. Can a nanny make 30-40 bucks/hr? Sure! But (IN MY EXPERIENCE) most of those jobs are in the city and require a commute.

What do you think Au pairs get?

Oof, we had a nanny until Covid and we paid $25 an hour for three kids (two in school full time) for 40 hours a week. Our nanny was great and had transitioned to cleaning/cooking more when our youngest started school part time. We were generous with bonuses and after giving a $1 raise each year ended up giving a $1000 annual bonus in lieu of a raise because we thought we would have her for 5 years longer than we did and we couldn’t pay $30 and hour.

My job went pretty remote post Covid and now that my oldest is in high school, we are ok on coverage even when I do need to be in the office.

Also wanted to add that my nanny lives 3 miles from my house and said it's nice that her commute is under 10 minutes. She said most of her jobs required a 45+ minute commute. I'm guessing there aren't as many nanny jobs in the suburbs.

I do not believe someone who is a legal live in accepts $12/h. Even live ins must be paid minimum wage and be paid for all hours. In Maryland live ins get 1.5 for OT.

Live in is a convenience for employer and minimum wage still must be paid. You cannot deduct room and board if living in is required for job.

I have never offered a discount when a family needs a live-in. You have to make so many sacrifices to live in a place that isn’t officially yours. For starters, you never know if they’re riffing through your personal personal belongings when you’re out. Some people are just nosy and like to see.

One of many reasons why I will never have a live-in nanny again. It made no sense to us. She was in our space 24/7, but wouldn't work over 40 hours, and wouldn't pay rent. I understand the nanny's position. It just means the tradeoffs (lost privacy, mainly) aren't worth any advantage gained for my family. I'd rather pay a market rate for a nanny with our own space.

Only $100/day while traveling??!

That is a very low amount to pay her.

$100 per day (flat rate as nanny is out of her house)while traveling in addition to the hourly rate for 8 hours. Basically i get $35 hourly x8hrs plus $100. I travel falls on the weekend, the legal OT rate of 1.5 since the moment i put foot at airport.
