Another Post hit piece on homeschooling

I know a realtor in WV "homeschooling" her kids aka dragging them to every appointment and they do maybe 1 hour of work a day. Craziness.

I knew a mad in Kentucky who homeschooled his kids, although he was functionally illiterate. They spent most of their time exercising foxhounds and cleaning the kennels.

My stepsister, quite possibly the stupidest person I've ever met, is homeschooling her four children. Well, two of her children are adults now, and two are still at home being homeschooled. I always wondered how you teach your children something like how to multiply fractions when you don't know how to do it yourself.

Her two oldest daughters didn't go to college of course -- one got married, with parental approval, one month after high school "graduation." She was 18. Other daughter had a child while a teenager as well and is on her second marriage at 21 or so. They are both planning to homeschool their kids. Stepsister's younger daughter and son are still too young for college, but I'm guessing if it is in the cards at all it will only be for the boy.

And yes, it's a religion thing. Some non-denoniminational thing. My stepsister's DH has gone around saying he's the prophet of armageddon. So nuts it should be funny, but scary enough that it isn't.

It is very far from clear how moving homeschooled kids into a public school will cause them to pass the tests. Every homeschooled child I know is being home schooled precisely because of dreadful academic failures at their assigned public school.

So, are most homeschool families poor? I mean…put your kid in private school.

Homeschooling is an escape from bullying.

You'd be surprised how common exercising foxhounds and cleaning the kennels is in men from Kentucky

My homeschooled relative ended up with major math/science deficits because mom didn't like those subjects.

I obviously can't speak to the home schooled children you happen to know, but plenty are being home schooled in service of religious beliefs and an unwillingness to have those beliefs contradicted by mainstream knowledge and sensibilities.
