I take serious offense to this. My daughter spent pre-K to 8th grade at BSM and we couldn't be happier with her experience there. Do you understand that Catholicism stands for LIFE and has no room for people who disagree. It's a Catholic school for goodness sake. Of course most people lean to the right. That's what our religion teaches us. If you don't like it, keep your mouth shut and stay at your secular school.

Tired of the attacks on Catholicism. If people attacked Islam, Hinduism, mainstream Protestant religious and Judaism like the Catholic church has been attacked, there would be massive protests over it.

I mean...the Catholic Church has a history of corruption and cover ups. I'm Catholic and it's a really difficult institution to defend.

I was a parent at the school for 11 years. It is not a far right leaning crowd. It has a fair mix of people. It always boggles my mind that one of the first things people consider in their schools is how many people vote the same way. I guess it is the new normal, and not just at Catholic schools. But, it helps everyone if we stay focused on the academics, and all the Catholic schools have a strong emphasis on giving to those in need and volunteering for others. And tamiles of both R and D persuasion participate.

The tone of this is spot on - this is definitely a current BSM parent, OP.

OP here... Thanks for this. While I think in any Catholic environment I expect to find some families more conservative and/or more devout Catholic than my family, I'm ok with that. Differences are a great way to spark discussion. My big concern is finding a school that works with my child as an individual rather than trying to form her into a specific mold both as a person and a learner. As much as the foundation a religious school provides is appealing to me, I worry the way Catholic schools teach are not what I feel might be right for my child. I'm hopeful that I'm basing my thoughts on my own experience and the schools have progressed from ages ago

I must have missed the part where Catholics are constantly attacked and discriminated against.

Their control of the Supreme Court is apparently a sign of Catholic persecution. Just not enough power, need all nine seats!

Here's the difference: I have absolutely no problem with a Catholic school telling its Catholic pupils that as Catholics, their religion tells them that they must choose Life and that they should never abort. That's completely 100% fine. BUT when schools sanction participation in protests and marches that try to codify your religious teachings into the LAW of the United States of America, where church and state is supposed to be separated and where everyone is supposed to have the freedom to choose what they want to do with their own reproductive health, it is NOT okay. At all.

Ooh I like you. Such good points. Also, is one of the main teachings to judge not as God will judge in the afterlife? Why is it anyone's place on this earth to judge others and control them?

🙄 Grow up. People don’t have to be anti-choice for their kids to attend your school. Deal with it.

OP, I understand your concerns. I am fairly moderate in my views both politically and religiously. I can’t say there were not times when we had discussions at the dinner table that while not directly adversarial, we certainly provided DC with alternative thoughts on issues. IMO , it was a great way to discuss various arguments and beliefs and how they can differ. DH and I understood that the school would teach Catholic doctrine. We were prepared to provide our commentary, as it were.

I am the PP who had DC there with very different needs. One was dyslexic and had an IEP and additional support for reading. Another DC was in a differentiated math for a kids with a strong aptitude in mathematics. The classes are fairly large, but kids were definitely grouped for their needs. I know twins who had different vocabulary list in ILA for example. well they can’t differentiate too much Give her the class sizes, they do try to meet students needs as best they can.

There are ~90 students per class. There are quite different groups as you would find anywhere.

I am not a St. Mary parent; however, I am responding. When you murder a baby, you should be judged.

Novel rhetoric AND and a profound understanding of human biology. Are you sure you’re not a BSM parent?

You should also check out the other area Catholic schools as well (Blessed Sacrament, St. Louis etc). They all have a different vibe.
