Bigger mortgage vs. private school.

13:26 We did public through Grade Six, are doing private starting in Grade Seven, it's not to get into a top college, it's for the education in the here and now, and we think it is worth every penny. I'd rather live in DC and do private than live in the burbs and do public. I've only got one child, so it's just one tuition. And we did the first eight years gratis. So, to each his own.

We chose bigger mortgage. We're thinking that our kids can get a high quality education and by the time we retire and we will one day get our money back out of the house. DH thinks our kids will be better off in the long run if we have extra money to help them out when they're starting out in life (helping with their first home down payment, for example). If at any time public schools aren't working for our kids, we have enough of a cushion that we can swing private, although it will be tight.
