Why is my old neighbor mowing his lawn almost every day. Do I have recourse to report him?

....because you would look like a fool if you did that.

PP here. If you do try and report your neighbor for something like this be prepared for the county rep to ask you if you've tried to speak to your neighbor about the situation.

They want people to try to resolve issues amicably before escalating the situation.

I live 2 houses down from a county rep and she has told many a story about neighbor disputes.

Is it normal for someone to mow their lawn every day? No, is there a noise ordinance at play here? Could one prove that it's excessive and a nuisance? I have security cameras that document his excessive mowing.

It sounds like there is no recourse for this nusance

I doubt you are going to find any county noise ordinance that allows you to force your neighbor to stop mowing daily.

Talking to him in a CIVIL (which means calm yourself completely and do not go in accusing) is your best chance for success.

Keep your goal in mind (getting him to mow less often) and wipe what you think you are entitled to out of your head before you approach him. That's key if you want any chance of achieving your goal.

Don't even do that. It's a silly request.

I don't have time to talk to him and he is not very pleasant, he constantly complains about the neighbor behind him putting up a new fence. I'd rather let the authorities deal with him.

I’d take his case and counter sue for invasion of privacy and stalking. You’ll both lose, but the case would be fun to try.

I mean, neither are you. I’m sure you can manage to find 5 minutes to chat with him about mowing less often, or at a later time in the day.

Why would the authorities care about this?

This! There was a 20/20 or something similar about a couple (we'll call them neighbor A) who got upset about their neighbor's (neighbor B) trail cameras.

They thought he was "watching them" so they started following him and documenting his movements to use as evidence in their case against him. Guess which neighbor got charged with stalking???? Yep, A.

They're not going to do anything at all, other than roll their eyes and have a good laugh at your expense. Get better windows, invest in sound-blocking wall coverings, wear earplugs, get a white noise machine. You're nuts.

The only reason anyone might care was if the decibels exceeded local limits or he was doing it daily outside of permitted hours.

This post is why this forum has the awful reputation it has and why people clown on this site.

Get an office. Noise ordinances are in effect at nighttime, not daytime.

Are there any rules on this, I understand once or twice a week but almost every day is excessive.

He is retired probably age 60+

Maybe you should go back to the office.

Report him to the Bureau of Lawn Management.
