Please tell me about Mater Dei

The school forced my friend's son to repeat a grade as a condition of entry (K or 1st) when he transferred in from a local Catholic school, reasoning he would be too immature and behind his peers. Besides that extra added expense, she is happy with the school. The family is very conservative Catholic.

Is there a comparable girls or coed school like it?

We like the academics, feedback, grading system - very transparent and builds competitive spirit plus camaraderie/ support amongst the boys.

Which is why it’s commonly called mater delay.

My child’s friends from other private and public schools are overall great. The ones we know from this school show aspects of a bullying and just not nice. Over heard 7th grader from there walk right up to a brand new neighborhood kid, eyed him up and down and say that he didn’t like his voice. Only to be mean.

One other thing about Mater Dei.

Parents of players on teams that lose to Mater Dei reason that it must be the boys are older. It couldn’t possibly be that they are better athletes who are better coached. The PP is an example of that.

Actually it’s because most of these kids have been been playing Club LAX and other sports since they were about 5. Families choose the school for this reason - to be around other like-minded individuals who value athletics above all. Can’t compete, even remotely, with the Big3-5 or other top privates in the DMV.

Can’t compete academically - I meant to say.

They aren’t interested in competing or even associating with them.
