The lights kept coming on, bank by bank, but then a bank of lights wouldn't go on and they would turn them all off. The story on the radio, as we drove home without seeing a game, was that no one wanted to face Randy Johnson without 100 percent perfect lighting. (Although I would think that would be hitters' requirement for most pitchers!) I think I heard the story about Kevin Costner and the Ripkens maybe six months later, but I have no idea if it is true or not.

I was there too!

This is a story that's been around, but they often substitute Brady Anderson for Kevin Costner, which ties in one of the other major rumors of that era, which is that Brady Anderson is a closeted gay man.

I don't see a single man on this list.

I have to go with this. Randy Johnson back then was practically not hittable with perfect lighting. No way with bad lighting.

And he also has a daughter from a relationship with a woman, but that doesn't stop the rumor. I worked in the front office in the early 2000s, after he was gone,, but it was still something people talked about.. He has a certain voice, he's thin and muscular, keeps up his appearance, wasn't known to date or hit the bars in Baltimore, and shared a condo in California with Rene Gonzales. Back in the day, It was a hot, hot rumor. But not based on factual evidence.

Cal and Brady as part of their contracts were allowed to stay in a different hotel from the team during g away games, most likely to hide from prying eyes.
Cal's agent, Ron Shapiro, created a squeaky clean image for Cal, which is all a lie. A co-worker of Shapiro
Told me it was a Contractor working in their home not Costner and Cal called that day to say he was not going to play that night since he and Brady returned to the Ripken home to find them together. Cal and Brady
Were always together...

You’re alleging that Cal Ripken and Brady Anderson were gay lovers?

This thread has it all.

I'm from Baltimore and this story has made the rounds since that time.

The version I always heard was not Kevin Costner or Brady Anderson, but Rafael Palmero.
