logistics: how to tote infant around 3 story house while doing chores?

bassinette on every floor? cant carry her all day -- too heavy & hot. yeah i am typing w one hand and u know why.

A crib on one floor and a swing on another? That takes care of 2 out of the 3. Otherwise, I did most chores while the baby was sleeping.

Ergo + bouncy chair + blanket on the floor with toys.

Between the swing, the PNP, the bassinet, we had all of the floors covered. I actually bought 2 used PNPs for less than the price of one new one just because I was worried about the exact same thing with an infant.

what's a pnp?

What kind of chores? Can you just put her in a Moby wrap?
PP - pnp = pack n play

OP here

Well, on my most productive day so far, with MIL watching three week old baby and 3 yo daughter at a playdate, I was able to do the following in about 3-4 hours (though recovering from c-section):

* vacuum all three levels, including under beds
* declutter stairway and child's living room play area
* dust basement bookshelves and media console
* put away all washed laundry that had stacked up
* wash kitchen floor and spotclean other floors, including stairways
* polish wood DR table
* wipe down first two shelves of fridge (then I ran out of time: baby needed to be fed, etc.)
* wipe down exteriors of all kitchen cabinetry
* wipe windows and mirrors with obvious 3-yo handprints on them

If I can maintain that level of productivity, we won't wallow in our own fetid juices for too long! Basically, every level of the house was touched in some way.

Get a nice carrier - an Ergo or Beco or Boba. You'll have to use an infant insert with the Ergo since your baby is only 3 weeks. The Beco Butterfly 2 has an infant insert built in, not sure about the Gemini. And not sure about the Boba.

And have a place to set the baby if you'll be in the same place for a while - ie: bouncy seat, pack and play, etc. Put one one each level so you don't have to tote them around.

My 3 month old loves her play mat much better than the bouncy seat. She will be happy laying on it for Quite a while.

Ergo carrier and/or moses basket.

I hated infant carriers. Even those were hard on my back - especially after a c -section I was fine to walk stairs, carry him when needed, but I can't imagine carrying him in a bjorn or ergo all day. I had bouncy upstairs near our bathroom, which I used to get ready in the morning, and took it down sometimes during the day. His crib was also upstairs. Pack n play on main floor, swing, play mat (the 3 week old isn't going anywhere if you are on that level, so you can leave him/her on back looking up at the toys. I either took the bouncy down to the bottom floor after using it upstairs, or I kept a bassinet on the bottom floor. Also, keep diapers and wipes on the middle floor (if you have a pack n play use the changer on that) so you don't always have to go to the top floor for diaper changes. If you don't have that many things to put him in, you can just put a blanket down with some toys on it.

we just had a blanket with a few toys in each floor. no need to overthink this.

Boba is a toddler carrier, you don't want one of those.

A Bjorn would hurt your back but an Ergo or Olives and Applesauce or some other good quality carrier should not. I couldn't imagine having an infant and trying to get things done without a good carrier.

You have an infant and a 3 year old and want to accomplish 3 to 4 hours of housework a day? I completely understand not wanting to "wallow in your own fetid juices"...however, you should be able to accomplish this without 3 to 4 hours of work everyday. If you have a three week old, you really should rearrange your priorities for a bit.
