USC and Columbia Protests

There were about 200 people, 3 dozen tents, and a visible but quiet police presence at every entry point to the “encampment,” which is surrounded by metal gates. The protesters inside the gates have been there for more than 2 days, don’t have anywhere to go to the bathroom, and have no intention of leaving anytime soon. Those outside the gates can’t get in, meaning the encampment itself won’t grow although tents are popping up around it.

The leaders held a press conference and said they won’t leave until their demands are met, which include the university divesting of all financial connections to what they called the “Zionist regime.” They said 9 GW students have been suspended for protesting. They said the president of the university refused to speak with them. They called for the police to leave campus. They emphasized that they believe antisemitism is wrong but anti Zionism is right.

Their chants speak for themselves. If you are asking me, I don’t personally agree with what they are chanting. Specifically, I don’t think the term “genocide” is right but I do think there is lots of evidence the Israeli forces may have committed war crimes in Gaza and those alleged crimes must be investigated. But I was not there to express my views. I was there to observe and tell you my readers what I saw.

I saw lots of young people who have lost all hope that the system will do anything to address their grievances or the suffering of their community members. At the same time, I saw a protest effort that is demanding things it must know it cannot achieve through these means. That tells me this is only the beginning and the goal of finding any common ground between these communities is tragically getting farther and farther from reach.

D.C. police rejected GWU’s plea to sweep out university protesters

Officers had assembled around 3 a.m. Friday and were prepared to enter the encampment, but senior leaders in the police chief’s and mayor’s office ordered them to stand down, the officials said. The demonstrators were small in number and largely peaceful, and the city officials told their university counterparts they wanted to avoid images of violent altercations between police and protesters flashing on TV screens across the country.

Finally a completely sensible decision from MPD.

Will forever be on her record.

Good. You don't go around putting hands on police when they are making an arrest. And if you do, well, FAFO.

Don't give them too much credit, when you enforce nothing you will eventually stumble into something that makes laziness look like a good deed. I mean they could have made that decision before officers gathered to collect OT pay.

Attention job seekers. I will not hire any recent graduate of Columbia, because that school is so tainted that I will not be able to trust in the character nor the educational attainment of any of its students.

And I furthermore will not hire any older graduates either, because it has become evident that the academic rot is so deeply ingrained as to taint others who have come through that institution in the past several years. I cannot have faith that any former Columbia student could have achieved sufficient academic success, especially in light of the overwhelming recent evidence that the academic requirements there are so lax such that students have time to go set up protests on the quad instead of studying.

In case you are a Columbia alum who might actually be a good person, please feel free to cite this declaration as evidence in your lawsuit against Columbia for having contaminated your personal brand as a graduate, and your employment value. You should definitely seek damages.

Could you please identify your company so that Columbia University grads will not waste their time applying there?

What an ego! Is this the same guy who was banned from Columbia after stating, “Zionists don’t deserve to live”?? What a joke.

Yeah, I’m of the view that this ongoing conflict’s cause is at least 90 - 95% the fault of Zionists, but this kid’s career prospects should be toast until he finds a way to reassure reasonable people that his expressed views from the past are no longer part of his worldview.

There’s no place for actively killing innocents, but there’s also no place for threatening to.

Pretty sure any company who does a background check before hiring will take a hard pass on this wackadoodle.

Sure, Jan.

Doubt Fiona Cicconi gives a rip who some middle manager 67 levels below her in the food chain wants to hire or blackball in the workplace.

Get back to work, nerd.

I mean, as I think about it, is the Columbia kid any worse than Stewy Seldowitz who called for the deaths of all Palestinian children on video while taunting and tormenting an innocent street vendor? Actually, isn’t Stewy still 10x worse because he made those vile statements from the perch of a privileged class existence.

Stewy is worse, right?

Who’s making sure Stewy never works again? I’m assuming Ackman isn’t interested in that job, so which one of you is going to be on case here to ensure Stewy doesn’t work again?

From what I have read, Stuart Seldowitz was arrested and charged with a hate crime.
Has Khymani James been arrested and charged with a hate crime?
