Recommendation for gynecologist for 14 year old + related period questions

Anonymous
My daughter is 14 and her first period was almost a year ago. Her cycle doesn't seem to be established yet - the number of days between periods, and the length and flow of her period are all over the place. Currently she is on day 15 of her current period! So this is getting to be quite a chore for her. It also got VERY heavy this time.

I would for her to talk to a gynecologist. We live in McLean, but are very close to N. Arlington and Falls Church. I am looking for a modern, unintimidating environment, esp. with a young female gynecologist. My daughter has lots of questions and isn't shy about asking them if she feels comfortable. Please recommend anyone you can think of, as I will also need to make sure they take our insurance.

I would recommend the adolescent medicine doctors at Georgetown who saw my daughter for a similar bleeding issue. They are specialists in teens and are definitely more teen friendly than my gynecologist's office.

My daughter did take birth control pills for a few months after evaluation for blood disorders/hormonal reasons for the prolonged periods. She also takes aleve to decrease the flow/ cramps.

Dr. Mazloomdoost (ob/gyn) at Georgetown is great with teenagers. She's in her early 30s, but looks younger.

Dr. Martinez at GWU has an interest in adolescent health and is in her 30s but, honestly, I thought she was in her 20s when I saw her during my pregnancy. She's extremely approachable and a total sweetheart.
